For so long now, it’s been impossible to use our MacBooks – unbound by the chains of a power adapter – while video outputs to an external monitor. As we all know here at TechRadar, Apple’s laptops automatically enter sleep mode whenever the lid is closed. For the lot of us, this can be a huge inconvenience should you prefer the sheer magnitude of a monitor as opposed to a 12- or 13- or 15-inch laptop screen. Fortunately, Amphetamine allows you to continue using your MacBook while closed. Before, you could do this by using a similar app called Caffeine, but we prefer the UI features you get with this freebie. Not only does it fit in naturally with the rest of your Menu Bar items, but Amphetamine also supports hotkey commands as well as deactivation reminders – not to mention there are no annoying ads in sight. What’s more, even then it lacked some of the comprehensiveness of Microsoft’s alternative. Luckily, HyperDock gives us that full-fledged functionality we so desperately crave, allowing anyone with a Mac to apply it to both the app Dock and windows. In Windows, you can drag an app to the left or right edges of the screen (or the corners) and it’ll automatically fill that space. This makes it much easier to be productive on the desktop without wasting time dragging windows from the corners. For the Dock, hovering over apps activates something close to Windows 7’s thumbnail previews, giving an overview of the window that can be accessed by a click or closed directly from the preview. Here's how to fix a crashing app after the macOS upgrade and a complete guide to stop app crashes at launch. But for him, his life is not longer. Just the comparison. IF it is really possible to move at a higher speed than light speed, the moving object would travel back in time, relatively for the onlooker it would move SLOWER than lightspeed. Weird stuff, huh? Now I need to build a DeLorean that makes Hyperlightspeed. No one ever said (well, ok, lots of people say it, but that's because they're misquoting someone else) that it was impossible to move faster than light. Einstein said it was impossible to accelerate to the speed of light. (as you approach the speed of light, mass approaches infinity, the whole problem is with the notion of infinite mass) While I find this tidbit interesting, it doesn't change anything or break any rules. Speed is distance/time. If time is not constant, then speed measurements are also not constant. That's the easy definition of relativity. Einstein's doing just fine. Light does have mass. Everything that exists has mass. Mapping Windows keys to Apple keyboards. In fact, Scientists have just been able to measure distances at 10^-35, which is the smallest quanta possible. The reason why light moves so quickly is because it has so little mass-- anything else that is very light could be accelerated to similar speeds. However, gravity effects the laws of physics and time/space. It has been proven that a signal can be sent faster than the speed of light-- but that's not because a particle went from point A to point B by shooting it out of a cannon. It's because time/space was warped with immense magnets (to simulate gravitational effects) that altered the physical distance needed to travel. The signal, thusly, arrived BEFORE it was sent. On a large scale, Black holes allow for this time/space folding to occur. Think of it like a rubber band: if you compress the band the distance is short to travel around the circumference. The opposite is true if you stretch it. Yet, it is the same surface you are traveling on. There is an excellent issue of Scientific American than discusses the concept of time. The whole issue is devoted to it. Should be on news stands now. This is where it gets ugly: All objects, by definition of their substance have mass. The sticky bit is that objects are an illusion of frame rate. That is: the only difference between an insubstantial photon and a 'substantial' proton in terms of their substance is that (so to speak) a proton has a higher frame rate. The only reason we continue to cling to particle theory is that a). It's easier to grasp the concept and b). We are limited to equipment that cannot observe continuously, with a high enough frame rate to isolate the standing oscillation that is commonly thought of as the 'surface' of a SA particle. With that said: If every standing oscillatory point that represents what we think of as SA 'objects' has observable mass-interaction (gravitational presence) except the two least substantial than the logical conclusion is that those two are not exceptions but merely have unobservably slight mass. If photons had no mass they would not be effected by gravity. The only conclusion is that the velocity/force/mass equation in E=mc^2 is fundamentally flawed because even with infinetessamally (sp?) small mass, acceleration to what is considered functionally infinite velocity would result in nearly infinite potential energy. BTW: Ever notice that E=mc^2 is just the Newtonian calculation for discovering the potential force-at-impact calculation for a given mass? Originally posted by Frobozz Light does have mass. This will overlay the audio over the video file, and it will play at the same time as the video. Both the audio file’s audio and the original video file’s audio will play at the same time. You could use this to add background music to a video, for example. When you save (or duplicate and save) the original file, the additional content will appear at the end of the file — in the same order it appears on the bar at the bottom of the screen. When you’re done, click File > Save to save your recording to a file. Transcode and Shrink Files QuickTime also includes some basic transcoding features. These can be used to shrink a file down so you can more easily email or upload it somewhere, or so it will consume less space when placed on a portable device. This feature can also strip the video out of a media file, saving the audio content as its own file. To do this, open the media file and then click the FIle menu. Use the options under Export to select your desired quality level. You can also export the video straight to iTunes, which gives you the option to select your desired quality level. From iTunes, you can more easily transfer the file to an iPhone, iPod, or iPad. QuickTime is packed with other useful editing features, too. You can use the Rotate and Flip options under the Edit menu to rotate or flip a clip (or entire file), saving it afterwards. This could be useful if someone accidentally recorded a video upside-down, for example. On Windows, you’d need a third-party application like. Migrating Verizon.net Email to AOL Mail on a Mac My Mom has a verizon.net email address. Recently, Verizon sent out notices informing everyone that they would stop handling email, and recommended migrating to AOL. “I won’t have an aol.com email address, will I?” asked my Mom. I assured her that she wouldn’t. At first I simply updated the server settings, but in recent days things became unreliable. She could still receive email through POP3, but could not send mail. I also wanted to move her to IMAP. This took three hours and the help of a knowledgeable Verizon tech named Dan to figure out, so I wanted to document the procedure for any other Moms or anyone else in this situation. The does not include instructions for Apple Mail. That would make it too easy. This looks kind of scary, but it works. And before I begin, if you don’t keep regular backups then you really should. On a Mac this means buying an external USB hard drive. The procedure to migrate your account involves deleting your existing verizon.net account and creating a brand new account on AOL. Your messages will disappear but they will return if you do this correctly. Open System Preferences, located in the Apple menu. Go to Accounts. Remove all of the accounts associated with verizon.net. If you have other accounts such as iCloud or Gmail you can leave those alone. Now add an account. Select AOL for the account type. Enter your email address, for example [email protected]. Enter the password and continue. If you get a warning about a duplicate account, do the following. Open Mail and go to its preferences. Go to accounts and remove any lingering verizon.net email accounts. Close mail’s preferences. ![]() Return to creating an account in your System preferences. It gets a little confusing since you have several types of accounts. It will tell you that you need to create a custom account. For the account type, select IMAP. For the outgoing server, enter imap.aol.com. For the incoming server, enter smtp.aol.com. Hit Create, and with a bit of luck your account should show up in the list of accounts, and your emails should return. That hurt my head. My mom gave me an as a reward. Do you need to manage a calendar collectively with a household or other coworkers? Do you prefer a streamlined and subtle interface or an app that's jammed full of features, such as in-app notes and to-dos, design be damned? We considered and tested several dozen calendar apps to find the 10 best that meet a variety of needs. What Makes a Great Calendar App? Calendar apps have two core functions: They show your upcoming schedule and remind you of important events. The best calendars, however, aren't just functional. The give you clarity about how you spend your time, and a few rare finds are even a joy to use. In looking for the best calendar apps, we considered apps that have five characteristics. Calendar apps are easy to use when they require minimal clicking and menu exploration. They should be intuitive to learn to use and not require a lot of tending. Designed with intention. Aesthetics aside, a good app should be designed with intention. An app with a multitude of colors and icons may look busy to one person's eye but come across as highly functional to another. If you can tell different kinds of events apart easily and get a bird's eye view of your schedule, that's what matters. For those who appreciate minimalism, however, there's certainly an allure to an uncluttered user interface because it makes checking your calendar a pleasant and stress-free experience. Packed with features and customizable. If you're a serious scheduler, power features, such as customizable views and integrations with task management apps, will help you get the most out of your calendar. For those apps that aren't heavy on features, we looked for customization options that make the app adjust to your style. Simple to share. Sharing features, such as the ability to give other people access to your schedule, can be a huge help. Some calendar apps are more collaborative than others, and some are more suited for home use than office. In the descriptions of the best calendar apps below, we call attention to sharing options when they are front and center in an app. ![]() Available for multiple devices. When considering apps for this list, we gave preferences to apps that are accessible on more than one platform, as you should be able to see your calendar no matter where you are and what device you have on hand. There's no need reason to limit yourself to one calendar app. It's quite common, for example, to use Google Calendar, Outlook calendar, or Apple Calendar (formerly referred to as iCal) as the holding tank for your calendar entries, and then port them into a different calendar app that better meets your needs in terms of form and function. With these criteria in mind, here are the 10 best calendar apps, listed alphabetically. The excellent Any.do formerly had a separate calendar app called Cal, which it has more recently rolled into the namesake app to create one unified place for your tasks, goals, reminders, and schedule.
